Setting Up RDS with MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication)

Part 1: Set Up Microsoft Security Information

The following instructions are for connecting your Microsoft 365 account to the Microsoft Authenticator app to securely connect to Pine-Richland’s RDS server.  On your Chromebook or other computer:

  1. In a web browser navigate to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
  2. You will need to sign in with your email formatted like [username]@pinerichland.org
    • Example: 12Jstudent34@pinerichland.org
  3. Under “Security info”
      • Click on + Add sign-in method
      • In the “Add a method” window
      • Choose “Microsoft Authenticator” in the dropdown and click Add
      • You will be prompted to download the app. Do not close the app until you complete the setup.
  4. Click NEXT (twice)
    • A QR code will appear on the screen- (do not scan it yet) leave this window open. AFTER you complete part 2 below, you will be prompted to scan the QR code from the Authenticator app.

Part 2: Download App on Your Phone

  1. On your smartphone, download the Microsoft Authenticator app

  2. Open the app and allow notifications if prompted.
  3. Add an account
    • Select "Work or School"
  4. Use the Authenticator app to scan the QR code from Part 1 and follow the prompts.

Part 3: Access RDS From Your Chromebook

  1. Open a browser and Log into https://rds.pinerichland.org
  2. Enter your username (NO @prrams.org)
  3. Enter your password
  4. If you are off-campus your phone will prompt you to authenticate by entering a number in the app.
